What can an Administrator do that an Advisor cannot?

Administrators have full access including billing and removing people. Advisors handle conversations and contacts but cannot touch billing, settings or the team list.

Every person on your account holds one of two roles, Administrator or Advisor. Administrators can do everything. Advisors are built for handling customer conversations day to day, without the ability to touch billing or change who else is on the account.

The two roles

  • Administrator. Full access: billing and plan changes, inviting and removing people, changing anyone's role, settings, and every conversation. Give this out sparingly, it is the role that can spend money on your account and remove other people from it.
  • Advisor. Handles conversations and contacts. Cannot open billing, change organization settings, or manage the team list.

Your own account always shows its role next to your email on the Profile page under Settings.

Changing someone's role

  1. Go to Settings, then Team members.
  2. Find their row and use the role dropdown next to their name.
  3. Pick Admin or Advisor.

This takes effect immediately, and you will be asked for a two-factor code first if you have not already confirmed one this session. You cannot change your own role, another administrator has to do it for you. An account always needs at least one Administrator, so you cannot demote the last one, promote somebody else first.

Building your own permission sets

Some accounts also have Custom roles, reached from a Custom roles shortcut on your Team members page. Rather than the two broad roles above, an administrator can build a named set of specific permissions, things like managing conversations, managing contacts, or sending broadcasts, and assign that set to one or more teammates on top of their Administrator or Advisor role. This is useful when you want someone who can, say, only manage unassigned conversations without the full run of an Advisor. Only administrators can create, edit or assign custom roles.
