How do I send a text message to a group of customers at once?

Write a message, pick who gets it, and send it now or later. People with no phone number, who unsubscribed, or who never gave consent are left out automatically.

A broadcast is a single text message sent to many contacts at once. You write it once, choose who gets it, and Peakify sends it out in the background, skipping anyone who cannot legally or practically be reached. Sending a broadcast is limited to your organization's admins, unless an advisor has specifically been given permission to send them.

Write the message

  1. Go to the broadcast composer (reached from your dashboard).
  2. If your account has a connected WhatsApp inbox, pick SMS or WhatsApp as the channel first. Otherwise the composer is text-message only.
  3. For a text message, write your message. You can use {{first_name}}, {{last_name}} and {{organization_name}} and each recipient sees their own details filled in. A line inviting people to reply STOP to opt out is added automatically, you do not need to type it yourself.
  4. For WhatsApp, pick one of your approved templates instead of writing free text, and fill in its variables. WhatsApp only lets you use pre-approved templates, not any message you like, see your Inbox settings if you need to create one.

A text message is limited to 1,600 characters, roughly ten text segments.

Choose who receives it

  1. Under Recipients, pick Send to: all contacts with a phone number, contacts matching one or more tags, or contacts you already selected on the Contacts page.
  2. Peakify shows you the count it will actually reach, and how many are being left out. Contacts are excluded automatically if they have no phone number on file, have unsubscribed, or never gave marketing consent, this is not something you turn off.
  3. If you picked "By tag groups", add at least one tag before a count appears.

Schedule it, or send now

Turn on "Schedule for later" and pick a date and time to hold the broadcast until then. Leave it off and it sends within moments of you confirming.

Send it

  1. Press Send broadcast (or Schedule broadcast). You will see the exact recipient count and, for a text message, an estimated cost based on your account's per-message rate.
  2. A broadcast reaching 100 or more people shows an extra warning to double-check your message and audience before you continue. One reaching 1,000 or more asks you to type the word SEND to confirm, so a huge send is never one accidental click.
  3. Confirm. The broadcast is queued and starts sending shortly, or waits for its scheduled time. You can queue at most 10 broadcasts an hour.

Broadcasting spends money from your account, so sending one requires you to have two-factor authentication turned on. If you have not set it up yet, you are sent to turn it on first and brought back here afterward.

If it will not let you send

  • "Advanced automations aren't included in your plan" or a similar plan message: broadcast is a paid-plan feature and is not available on a free or expired trial account.
  • "This exceeds the recipient limit": your account has a maximum number of people a single broadcast can reach. Narrow your audience, or contact us to raise it.
  • "No recipients found": everyone in the audience you picked was excluded (no phone number, unsubscribed, or no consent). Pick a different tag or audience.
