How do I add extra fields to a conversation, like an order number?

An admin defines the field once under Settings, then anyone in your inbox can fill it in on any conversation.

A custom attribute is your own extra field on a conversation, an order number, an account ID, anything Peakify doesn't already track for you. An admin defines it once, and after that anyone working in your inbox can fill it in on any conversation, no separate setup needed per conversation.

This only works on accounts using Peakify's own inbox rather than the older, connected inbox, depending on your account you may not see it at all, see Where do I go to change something about my account or business?

Create a custom attribute

  1. Go to Settings, then the Inbox tab, then Custom attributes. This only shows up for admins.
  2. Click New attribute.
  3. Give it a short key, something like order_number, and set Applies to Conversation.
  4. Pick a display type, Text, Number, Link, Date, List or Checkbox. This decides what kind of box shows up when someone fills it in later.
  5. Click Create attribute. It's ready to use on every conversation right away.

Renaming isn't supported once an attribute exists, if you need a different key later, delete it and create a new one instead.

Fill it in on a conversation

  1. Open any conversation in your inbox.
  2. Click Attributes in the conversation's toolbar. Anyone with access to the inbox can do this, it isn't limited to admins. If your account is still on the older, connected inbox, this button is disabled instead.
  3. Fill in a value for whichever fields you need, then close the panel, your entry is saved as soon as you leave it.

Removing one

Back on Settings, Inbox, Custom attributes, click the trash icon next to the attribute and confirm. This removes it from the list and from every conversation's Attributes panel straight away. The values already stored on conversations aren't deleted outright, but nothing shows them to you again once the definition itself is gone, so treat deleting one as permanent.

The "Applies to: Contact" option

When you create an attribute, you can choose Contact instead of Conversation. Right now there isn't a screen anywhere in Peakify where you can actually enter a value for a contact-level attribute, so a Contact one is a definition with nowhere yet to fill it in. Use Conversation for anything you actually need today.
