How do I answer calls on my computer or phone app?

Turn your Peakify number into a softphone line you and your team can answer with an app like Groundwire, no desk phone needed.

A softphone lets you and your team answer calls to your Peakify number yourselves, from an app like Groundwire or Zoiper on a phone, laptop, or tablet. There is no desk phone to buy: you get a login for the app, and every device you add rings at the same time, first to answer takes the call. Calls are billed per minute from your wallet.

Soft Phone is available on the Pro plan and up. If your plan does not include it, you will see an upgrade prompt instead of the setup form.

Before you start

You need a phone number on your account first. If you do not have one yet, you are offered a link to add one before you can continue. See How do I get a phone number?.

Set it up

  1. Go to Settings, then Connections, then Set up Soft Phone. Depending on your account, this either opens the setup form directly, or asks you to finish inside Peakify CX Chat instead.
  2. Read and check the box confirming this number is not a reliable way to reach 911, and that you will keep a regular phone for emergencies. You cannot continue without checking it.
  3. Optionally turn on call recording. If you do, you also have to confirm you will notify callers that calls are recorded, the way your local law requires. Recording does not cost anything extra: it is included in your plan.
  4. Click Set up softphone.

If your AI receptionist is currently answering this number, setting up the softphone switches the number over to ring your devices instead, and you are asked to confirm that switch first.

Connect your app

Once set up, you are shown a SIP login, a server, username, and password, for your first device. Enter these in Groundwire, Zoiper, or any SIP-compatible app:

  • Server: sip.telnyx.com
  • Ports: 5060 (UDP/TCP), or 5061 for TLS

Save the password somewhere safe. It is only shown in full when you reveal or copy it, and if you lose it you will need to regenerate a new one, which changes both the username and password for that device.

Add more devices

From the same page, name and add another device any time, up to your plan's limit. Each device gets its own login, and every device rings together for every call.

Turn it off

Turning off the softphone stops it ringing your devices; your logins stay valid so you can turn it back on later without redoing setup. Until you switch the number to something else, Voice AI, or turning the softphone back on, incoming calls to it will not be answered.
