How segments work
An SMS is 160 characters in standard GSM-7 encoding. Anything longer is split into multiple segments, each billed at the per-segment rate above. Messages that include emoji or non-Latin characters switch to UCS-2 encoding, which fits 70 characters per segment.
Inbound is metered too
Inbound segments are billed at the same flat rate as outbound. Inbound is always delivered to your inbox. We never block receive, even when your wallet is at $0. If your wallet goes negative on inbound, the next top-up clears the debt automatically.
Wallet model
SMS is pay-as-you-go from your wallet. Outbound is blocked at $0 balance so you do not accidentally rack up charges. Inbound always receives but debits your wallet. Top up any time from the billing page.
A2P 10DLC fees (US-bound SMS only)
US carriers require A2P 10DLC registration for any business sending SMS to US numbers. These fees are passed through from our telephony provider at cost. Approximate because the carriers periodically retune them.

- $5 to $20 USD per month per active campaign (depending on use case).
Canada-only senders pay nothing here.
